Keeping the Peace. The UN peacekeeping mission in Haiti is more cost-effective for the US than if the US were commanding its own force, according to a new report. This report, put together by the Government Accountability Office for the US House of Representatives, compares the costs of peacekeeping as well as the strengths of both UN and US forces in peacekeeping missions. The report got little media coverage, but you can read "Peacekeeping: Cost Comparison of Actual UN and Hypothetical US Operations in Haiti" and find out more about the implications of the report from MSNBC and the Financial Times. |
