Egypt on the Edge. Egyptian security forces are using excessive force as demonstrations continue in Cairo by opposition groups demanding more judicial independence. The latest round of violence comes at a time when various parties from across the political spectrum are demanding reform and change. The violence on May 11 coincided with the visit of 12 US senior editors from major TV, radio, and print news organizations who were visiting Egypt as a part of a fact-finding trip organized by the International Reporting Project and cosponsored by the Stanley Foundation. |
